This here new record of Balkanton aims at presenting some of the most prominent alto-saxophones to the jazz fans of our country. The record producer does not claim the interpretations included here do actually present the best these nine alto saxophone aces have recorded ever, yet in all cases the material was being chosen so that you could possibly enjoy the performers at their best.
Besides that the nine saxophone players are actually representatives of various different styles and periods in jazz, so that lack of variety is the last thing one could doubt when buying this record. The intention to give a true and as far as possible complete picture of the history and development of the alto saxophone in jazz has resulted in combining together such top performers of the instrument as Charlie Parker, J. Cannonball Adderly, L. Konitz, Ph. Woods, J. Hodges, Q. Bartz, P. Desmond, A. Pepper and J. Handy III.
From the 'veteran' Hodges upto the youngest one of them all, Bartz. You will have the opportunity to hear some of the real masters of the alto-saxophone who have all added a great deal to its development as an important instrument in jazz.
Some of these musicians have played a considerable part not only as brilliant instrumentalists but also as leading figures in the history of jazz in general.
The popular themes, we hope, will help creating a more intimate atmosphere and a closer contact between listeners and performers.
